Welcome to Cornerstone Church of Christ in Christian Union of Plain City, Ohio!
“The mission of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union is to preach and teach the Gospel of Christ in its entirety, for the purpose of the evangelization of the unsaved, the discipling of believers and leading them into the experience of entire sanctification and development of a holy life thereby establishing churches and ministries which reflect the spirit and practice of the New Testament church.” – Mission Statement of the Entire C.C.C.U. Denomination
In support of this, our mission as a congregation at Cornerstone in Plain City is To know Christ and to make Him known. For a fuller doctrinal statement, please visit here.
Our denomination dates from 1909, when a group of believers set out seeking greater freedom to preach and teach the Biblical message of full salvation. In early October of 1967, the denomination came to Plain City, Ohio, when three families met with the General Superintendent and District Superintendent of C.C.C.U. with the hope of establishing an evangelical Bible teaching church in this area. Initially, the weekly Sunday School and Worship Services were held in homes. However, our church building was dedicated on June 7, 1970, and remodeling and an addition were dedicated on October 26, 1986.
Currently, we hold services for both adults and youths on Sundays at 10:30am and 6:00pm and Wednesdays at 6:00pm. Wednesday’s adult service focuses on prayer. Everyone is welcome to attend! Additionally, for those interested in going deeper, adult and youth Sunday Schools take place at 9:30am on Sunday mornings. Our services are evangelistic in nature and have no set dress code; and our form of worship is simple and free with little emphasis on ritual, representing a blend of modern-day gospel songs and beloved worship hymns.
Cornerstone is led by a pastor and team of elders. The pastor’s main responsibility is casting a vision for Cornerstone, while the elders work to execute the vision, encourage, counsel, and protect the church. The day-to-day functioning of Cornerstone is also overseen by a board comprising the elders, trustees, and certain other department directors within the church.
